Trap-Neuter-Release Program

While I do not know the exact number of free-roaming community cats in Arkansas I knew we had our fair share of them. Whether these cats are abandoned house pets or the un-socialized offspring of those house pets, without human help their numbers would keep escalating quickly.

Community Cats are animal control and public health issues. Impounding and euthanizing cats is expensive. Nuisance complaint calls are costly. Controlling rabies, disease and parasites is the town’s job. Community cats may not be at the forefront of any areas concerns but, if left unfettered, they could become a major problem. With Trap-Neuter-Return it improves the lives and relationships with the people who live near them. The cats are humanely trapped and taken to a veterinarian to be neutered, receive vaccinations, and have a rabies shot.

Trap-Neuter-Return relieves the cats of the constant stresses of mating and pregnancy. Their mating behaviors cease, like roaming, yowling, spraying, and fighting. Cat’s physical health will improve and most importantly the population stabilizes. Meaning no new kittens and the population will decline. Trap-Neuter-Return is a humane and effective approach.

Feeding bans don’t work. You can’t ban free-roaming cats. Trap and euthanize methods are proven ineffective; it’s expensive and no one cooperates with you. Trap and euthanize is what you call the “Vacuum Effect” the population will feel a void and they will recover/ reproduce to its original size.

Trap-Neuter-Return is more than saving today’s cats: it is the future of animal control and sheltering.

If you have feral cats in your neighborhood and would like to get them on the list for this program please contact us. We would love to help!
